The YesUcan databases are free downloadable programs containing tips and help from Info-Eq members. They may be downloaded from this page and installed on your computer. All three programs contain the same set of tips but have differences to suit particular users.
YesUcan3 was released for general use in 2002, updated early in 2003, and is the current version of the program. If you are already using YesUcan3 without problems, there is NO NEED for you to upgrade to YesUcan4 or 5.
YesUcan4 is a direct copy of YesUcan3 but has been written in 32 bit code on a computer running Windows © XP. If you have upgraded your computer and find that YesUcan3 is only using a small part of the screen, or if your computer cannot handle 16 bit code, then YesUcan4 should solve these problems. Information saved in an earlier copy of YesUcan3 may be transferred directly into the newer program.
YesUcan5 is also written in 32 bit code but following a user’s request, has an enhanced indexing system with six possible indexes instead of the three used in all earlier YesUcan versions.

What is YesUcan?
YesUcan is a free program of help and hints created especially for you by EQ user Gordon
Cooper. Gordon spent months collecting EQ questions, answers and helpful tips from
e-mail messages sent through the Electric Quilt e-mail list, Info-EQ.
He then created a searchable database program to hold these messages. He edited the messages
carefully, and created several ways to let you search, making the program a gold mine of EQ
information. The Electric Quilt Company greatly appreciates the time, effort and ingenuity
Gordon used in making this free program for all EQ users. If you have questions about using

Do I need other programs to run YesUcan?
No. YesUcan is a "stand-alone" program. It does not require links to any other program
on your computer. It has been tested with Windows 95, 98, 2000, ME, and XP. YesUcan will
not run without Windows.
How do I get YesUcan?
Follow the directions below to download and install YesUcan on your computer's hard drive.
What is the most recent version of YesUcan?
YesUcan3 is the current version and will continue as such. YesUcan4 and 5 are modified versions for particular uses.
DOWNLOADING YesUcan
Downloading and Installation is very similar for all three programs. Here are the details for YesUcan3, differences for the other two are given below.
Before you download YesUcan3, close all other programs running. Then click on the above Underlined words with your primary mouse button. A "File Download" box appears.
The download box will give you two choices. Either run the file, or save it to disk. YesUcan3 may be installed directly from here or you may prefer to save it to disk first.
INSTALLING YesUcan
Option One: Click "Run the File" and Click OK to start installation directly from the box.
- The download file Yes3Comp will show a popup box with information about creation of a new folder and will tell you about the general information file. Click OK.
- The second box shows the Unzip options. You will read that the new folder will be named YesUcan3. You may change this folder name before unzipping if you wish. Click Unzip to continue.
- The eleven files in the package will be automatically extracted into the new folder and the Startup notes will be displayed. You may wish to print a copy of these notes. Click File, Exit to continue.
- To finish the installation, you will need to make a Desktop shortcut. See below for how to do this.
Option Two: Save to disk. If you choose this option, Yes3Comp will be placed in a folder of your choice. When the download is complete, go to this folder and Double-Click Yes3Comp to start the installation. A popup information box will appear. Read it and Click OK. The installation will then continue as for Option One above.
Creating a DESKTOP SHORTCUT
- Open Windows Explorer.
- Find your YesUcan3 folder and click to open it.
- Look on the right side of the screen, find the YesUcan3 application file YesUcan3.exe and right-click it to bring up a Menu box, choose Create a Shortcut.
- Drag the Shortcut all the way to the top-left list on your screen and drop it on the Desktop Icon.
- Close Windows Explorer.
Using YesUcan3
- Double Click the Desktop YesUcan3 Icon to run the program.
- Read the YesUcan3.txt general information file. Better still, print it off to read at any time.
Downloading and Installing YesUcan4
The procedure is the same as for YesUcan3. Note that the download file will be named CompYC4.exe, the new folder on your Hard drive will be named YesUcan4, and that the application file is named YC4P.exe when you come to create the Desktop shortcut. Instructions for transferring data files from YesUcan3 are included in the Update.txt file.
Before you download YesUcan4, close all other programs running. Then click on the above Underlined words with your primary mouse button. A "File Download" box appears.
Downloading and Installing YesUcan5
Again the procedure is the same as for YesUcan3. The download file will be named CompYC5.exe, the new folder on the Hard drive named YesUcan5 will be named YesUcan5 and that the application file is named YC5P.exe.
Before you download YesUcan5, close all other programs running. Then click on the above Underlined words with your primary mouse button. A "File Download" box appears.
Because YesUcan5 has extra indexing capability, it has a different file structure to the other versions and the direct transfer of files containing data from these earlier YesUcans is not so simple as it is for YesUcan4. Those users who would like to use YesUcan5’s six indexes along with their own saved data should email Gordon directly for help.

Gordon
is not a quilter, but he shares a home with three computers, five and a half sewing machines,
a massive fabric stash, innumerable quilts and a heap of "work in progress." Perhaps
he's a patchworker's assistant?
Gordon and his dear wife, Molly, retired to Omokoroa in New Zealand's Bay of Plenty. After that, Molly caught the quilting bug and since then nothing has been the same! Gordon's first involvement with patchwork was the use of a computer CAD program to draw and print patterns for foundation piecing. Next came an extension to the house in the vague hope that fabric, batting, stray pins and short pieces of thread would be confined to the new purpose-built sewing room. It was a forlorn hope.
Molly is a few years younger and was working in theatrical costuming before they retired to Omokoroa. Other interests include quilting, quilting, and yachting.
Gordon worked in aviation electronics and the video/film industry. Other interests -- writing, amateur radio - particularly Search and Rescue, and emergency services.
They have two daughters; both sew. The elder, who lives in London U.K. studied Fine Arts in Fabric & Fibre; she weaves too. The younger daughter is the best knitter in the family.
