October 2009 Challenge: A Quilt for EQ the Mouse! (Page 2)

Our favorite mouse and mascot, EQ, would love a quilt to call his own. He is small, gray and a bit vain about his looks.
His favorite food is cheese.
He lives in a box behind Penny's computer monitor on her desk, and could definitely use a warm quilt.
He edits the monthly EQ Newsletter.
He has a Facebook page and loves his fans.
His best friend is Jean Claude, a small brown mouse who lives in the Art History department of Bowling Green State University.
He speaks French, but very poorly. Jean Claude is fluent.
Quilts should be 12 inches or less.

EQ's Dinner

Every little mouse likes cheese so I'm sure EQ Mouse would like a Cheesebox Quilt to sleep under

Ontario Canada

EQ Mouse shouldn't play with his food or should I say play in his food.

Again, a simple layout that could actually be pieced - 2 1/4 inch four-patches become the breadcrumbs, and the border blocks could be stip pieced. The mice are a charm tack from the Quiltmaker stencils.

"Cheddar" and "Gouda" coloured blocks are surrounded by the red rind that's found on Babybel cheese!
A simple design was choosen so that this quilt could actually be pieced - the blocks are all 1.5 inch HSTs.

I looooove cheese!! Around the holidays, you can buy those net bags full of individually wrapped tiny wedges of cheese.

EQ is sharing his favourite meal with his best friend Jean Claude, and there are some nice berries in the border to go with that cheese. The computers are never far away, with the newsletter to edit and all those Facebook fans to keep up with. At the end of the day he can retire to his little box and dream of the moon. Why the moon? Everyone knows it's made of cheese, of course!

The authors [of "Quilts" by L. Greenbacker & K. Barach (1992)] thought this was an Indiana Puzzle variation produced by an inexperienced quilter. My own feeling is that this what the quilter remembered of the design having viewed it only once.

Blocks from EQ Library

May the balmy Florida breezes in this quilt warm up a little mouse on those cold Ohio winter nights.

South Florida

Mouse Tails: Reminiscent of snails tail (but using the monkey wrench block with
gray for EQ the Mouse and brown for his friend Jean Claude. While EQ the Mouse is sleeping through the night (quilted moon and stars) he's dreaming of all the chunks of cheese just waiting for him to snack on!

Northeastern ON

I search the blocks in the EQ library using the word mouse and found a design. I then modified the block and set it in custom set and finished the quilt. The fabrics are from the park slope line and thought EQ the mouse might feel really at home with these colors!
