Design a quilt (or two) that reminds you of your favorite beverage. This can be alcoholic or soft, hot or cold, good-for-you or not. Have fun creating images in appliqué or piecing that work with your theme.

Designed for the clubEQ challenge for December, 2008: Inspired by a Beverage! In the sophisticated colors of black and "silver," this table topper was inspired by champagne, the beverage of celebrations. St. Charles, Illinois, USA |

In my opinion, there is nothing more refreshing
than a tall glass of fruit juice served any time of day. But add a touch
of champagne to your glass of juice to make your heart sing on New Year's
Eve. |
I used milkyway block, cow for milk, chickens for eggs, cinnamon/nutmeg tree, add some friendship stars, stir in some extra stars and serve on a winter's night. Darlington, MD |

Shortly before we retired, my husband and I moved into a new condo which was actually bigger than our house. I finally had the room I dreamed of for my quilting in the basement. As I was sitting there sewing one evening, sipping on a glass of Bailey's Irish cream, I was thinking, "It just doesn't get any better than this!" Then I went upstairs and found a bag of Cheetos! My favourite drink - a glass of red wine. In my original version of this quilt I used many more fabrics in the background than were suitable for an EQ challenge - the file size was far too large. The borders were were also diamonds in various light neutrals and the grapes were all different shades of burgundy and purple. If I made this quilt, the label on the bottle would be realistic - probably embroidered. Alberta. 2008

According to Wikipedia "Tea is the most widely-consumed
beverage after water." Winnipeg, MB Canada |
Sampling various teas is fun. I drew the cup myself.
The teapot is made using parts from urn patterns in EQ6. Of course at
least one cup had to get spilled. The background is supposed to be tea
dyed muslin! |

While I always have my coffee and tea every day, my favorite drink of all is Orange Juice. Carol Stream, IL |
I am not a coffee drinker but I love all kinds of
Hot Chocolate winter or summer. |
My inspiration for the apple and orange motif comes from a first-class postage stamp from a few years back I'm not sure of the year that this would carry mail but it cost 'only' thirty-four cents. It's still a bargain to mail a letter anywhere in the US but it's also
a little remarkable when you can remember the days of penny postcards. |

A very simple quilt using the "Economy" block from EQ's library and another block I drew myself. After I was satisfied with my eleven grape stain colors, I used the random recolor tool on this quilt, with both the 'Shifting Hue' feature and the 'Create a Riot' feature. THAT's a hoot! My favourite beverage is Chai, a spiced tea. I make my own powdered mix using cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cardamon, ginger and vanilla. I've used the Capital "T" (for the tea) block from the library and coloured it with the colours of the spices. The sashing is the vanilla binding the flavours together. The background swirling fabric is like the steam rising from my cup. The border fabric is like the look of the spices all mixing together. I think this is a quilt I would make. This quilt is inspired from my favorite drink. As
a background I draw a field of tea plants. The ideogram is "cha"
i.e. tea in Chinese. |

I love this Indian drink and to illustrate it I changed the EQ6 "Byzantium" block into more rounded shapes to remind mangos. For coloring as both fruit and drink are made with warm colors, I chose yellows, oranges and reds. Happy holidays season

Hudson, Quebec This is the first time I have done lettering, and it was quite easy. The blocks are all from the libraries, the lemon-slice border is a snowflake block.

Guildford, England I work for an organisation called the "Wine &
Spirit Eduction Trust" - we teach people about the wines and spirits
of the world. So a challenge with a beverage theme has to include a
reference to wine for me, and at Christmas time what else would this
be but mulled wine! |
Guildford, England The red fabrics provide the "hot" in this hot chocolate. There's even a bit of whipped cream on the top. Delicious! The blocks are from blockbase and one of them is appropriately called "cups and saucers".
